Your Future Is Bright at WPSHC

At WPSHC, we take a strong interest in ensuring the ongoing professional development of our staff. To facilitate this growth, we offer a variety of on-site learning opportunities for nurses to gain new knowledge, learn new skills, and stay abreast of trends in the field.

Nurses have the opportunity to participate in seminars and workshops in areas such as advanced cardiac life support, paediatric advanced life support, neonatal resuscitation, and rural trauma team development. Nurses are encouraged to further their education through paid education days and receive hospital assistance to access RNAO and RPNAO grants. Nurses may also attend industry-related professional development conferences. As our nurses continue to enhance their skills and expertise, doors will open offering exciting opportunities for career development.

Learning Through Information Sharing

WPSHC is a rural teaching facility, with on-site relationships with Canadore College and the Northern Ontario School of Medicine as well as a variety of other educational institutions, that values the enrichment of staff through information sharing and professional growth. WPSHC encourages nurses to share what they know by both seeking and creating opportunities with colleagues, students, patients, and within the community. Our nurses are offered opportunities to help prepare the next generation of nurses by acting as leaders, preceptors, and mentors through the provision of hands-on instruction and support. Nurses also have opportunities to share their expertise and help shape the practice of nursing at WPSHC by participating in a wide range of programme specific and hospital wide committees and teams.

More than Just a Workplace

Nurses at WPSHC enjoy working as part of a collaborative team of health care professionals who work toward the common goal of achieving excellence in compassionate, patient-centred care. This tightly knit working environment sets WPSHC apart from larger health-care facilities. Our team-based approach enables nurses to form meaningful relationships with their co-workers throughout our facility. Further promoting the team-oriented environment are staff social events such as summer barbeques, dances, baseball tournaments and walks on the scenic fitness trail that overlooks the hospital.
