A Rewarding Career Experience
Our 312-bed facility offers nine programs treating a range of mental health and addiction issues. Nurses are valued members of Homewood’s intra-professional treatment teams, providing direct patient care through
the therapeutic patient-nurse relationship in a caring, safe and compassionate environment.
A Culture of Excellence
Homewood employs 650 staff, including more than 300 clinicians and 25 physicians.
We promote excellence among our team. Our programs are staffed by fully qualified and experienced professionals. In addition, Homewood’s management staff are highly skilled leaders, many of whom have earned master’s level university degrees and are Certified Health Care Executives through the Canadian College of Health Leaders.
As a teaching hospital, we are committed to education and continuous improvement. Many of our physicians maintain specialty designations within their field of expertise, and Homewood’s Registered Nurses are provided with educational resources and funding opportunities to pursue the Canadian Nurses Association Certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing. Homewood is also a strong supporter of both the New Graduate Initiative and the Late Career Initiative.
Homewood’s Telemedicine Program provides educational resources to all staff and allows for the integration of a clinic-based treatment opportunity within our Local Health Integration Network (LHIN.) Always progressive, Homewood is also pursuing Telemedicine use outside of the LHIN.
Research for a Better Future
Homewood is part of Schlegel Health Care, a family-owned health care organization committed to providing quality care for older adults and enhancing the continuum of care through innovative research initiatives.
The Schlegel-UW Research Institute for Aging (RIA), a partnership with the University of Waterloo, links research, training and practice to improve care and quality of life for seniors.
The Homewood Research Institute works to analyse health care trends and to promote evidence-based practices through research and improvement of mental health programs across all sectors of the health care system.
Accreditation and Awards
Homewood was the proud recipient of the 2010 Canada Awards for Excellence – Order of Excellence Award in Quality and Healthy Workplace. In 2012, Homewood received Accreditation with Exemplary Standing, the highest level awarded by Accreditation Canada.
