BGH Leads The Way With E-documentation

Brockville General Hospital is a leader in the electronic documentation of patient information. BGH staff use the QuadraMed CPR system for easily accessing hospital reports, monitoring medication distribution and retrieving laboratory reports and x-rays. Nurses use Computers on Wheels at the bedsides of patients to chart information electronically. With one click, nurses can see a graph of a patient’s vital signs, for example.
BGH implemented the first phases of e-documentation in 2006 and 2008. In February 2009, further advances made more information easily accessible, eliminating the need to hunt through paper files. The next phase, being implemented in fall 2009, will bring Computerized Physician Order Entry to Brockville General Hospital. The entire multidisciplinary team at BGH will be charting online, including nurses, physicians, laboratory technicians, physiotherapists and occupational therapists. These changes will put Brockville General Hospital into an elite category of Canadian hospitals in terms of e-documentation.
