  Brant Community Healthcare System
Live in a community large enough to build a leading-edge facility with colleagues who call you by your first name. We focus on quality care for our patients, are committed to educating our staff and foster a work/home life balance for our nurses.

A number of organizations have recognized our exemplary working environment. The Registered Practical Nurses Association of Ontario presented us with their “Employer Excellence Award” for our innovative model of care; and Accreditation Canada determined that the BCHS exceeds national compliance rates for hospital Quality Dimensions & Standards and achieves all Required Organizational Practices for patient safety. In addition, we received a silver award from the OHA for a Quality Workplace.

Recognized as one of Hamilton and Niagara’s Top Ten Employers in both 2010 and in 2011, we are also proud to have achieved the best HSMR Hospital Standardized Mortality Ratio in Canada.

With sites in Brantford and Paris, we are located in picturesque Brant County, a lively, growing and vibrant community. Situated between Hamilton and London, we are less than an hour’s drive from each and only an hour from Toronto.

Respect for Your Profession

Our nurses are highly valued and integral to our team. With Care and support Teams and Unit Action Councils along with many other opportunities, our nursing professionals are an integral part of our interprofessional team in a collaborative practice setting.

We also provide excellent educational opportunities. Your learning process begins with an extensive orientation. Working with Educator and preceptors allows you to learn the intricacies of your clinical area.

You will attend workshops, seminars and support continuing education at the undergraduate or graduate level.

Access to computers, the Internet and our 24-hour health sciences library assists you with your career and care-practice goals.

Amy Gritter, an RN working on a medical unit at the BCHS joined the organization three years ago. “There is a very supportive staff and I enjoy working here. It is a great hospital with a lot of camaraderie among the staff. Since it is a community hospital, the work is challenging with a wide variety of patients and surgical procedures,” says Gritter.

Leading-edge Technology

Our nurses are supported by an array of leading-edge technologies. A specialized nurse call system was the first of its kind in North America. Our Diagnostic Imaging Department boasts the latest in Magnetic Resonance Imaging and CT technology. Our laboratory is the first in Canada to fully automate blood testing with a single integrated system that results in faster results and increased patient safety.

The state-of-the-art operating suites all feature the latest advances in technology and operating room design. Nurses also work with a wireless portable computer system that allows them to connect to a patient care system allowing nurses to access their patient’s information electronically. This functions seamlessly with the first Bedside Medication Verification System in Canada ensuring that each patient gets the right drug, dose, time and route. At the Brant Community Healthcare System we give nursing staff the tools they need to keep patients safe.
